Anna Havrilová was born on 1 May 1926 in the Polish village of Osławica (Sanok district) as the youngest of five children to parents Anna and Štefan Kahan. She is one of the last survivors of the burning of the village of Osławica and the expulsion of the local Ruthenian population. She came from a Lemko family and her father worked in Canada while her mother took care of the farm. She spent her childhood in humble conditions. During the Second World War, Osławica was occupied by the Germans and in 1946 the population was forcibly displaced by the Polish army. Anna managed to escape to Slovakia, while her family was deported to Ukraine. Later she headed to Jesenica, where she found work, and in 1948 she married Andrej Havril. She met her mother and siblings only twice in Ukraine. She never returned to her native Oslawica. Her daughter discovered that there is no memorial plaque anywhere today to commemorate the tragic events. At the time of the filming, in 2024, Anna Havrilová lived in Lipová-Lázně.
